My name is Mariana Osoria. I'm the new CEO here at Gads Hill Center.

I can hardly believe it's been almost 8 months, now. I may be new here, but I am not new to Chicago. I was born and raised here—I grew up in Austin, am a product of Chicago Public Schools through high school, and I've been in the social service field for over 30 years. I am very proud to be leading such an incredible organization that has been around for 127 years, and that makes such an important impact every single day. I am so thrilled to be here today, as this is one of my favorite events, and it is an incredible reminder of the work that I have to do to support you, your families, and our team members to be able to sustain the organization.

Your choice to bring your children into the care and education of Gads Hill Center demonstrates an incredible commitment to their future, and to yours and your family's. For that, I thank you. Because, although it may seem like a small gesture today to find high-quality early care and education for your children, it is actually foundational and critical. What happens in your child's brain these first five years of their life is like architecture. You have a vision of grandeur—the Taj Mahal, the pyramids of Chichen Itza, the Parthenon—but before you can construct those wonders of the world, a strong foundation has to be set. And that's exactly what you're doing here.

I am so excited to be here with you this morning in celebration of the accomplishments that you and your children have made so far. This is, officially, a 'transition' ceremony—moving your child from one level to another—and although we do not call it a 'graduation,' it is very much that: graduating on to another level. And, although this might be the first time that your child is moving on to another level in their educational trajectory, because of the commitments that you and our team members have made, this will absolutely not be the last one.

Together, in partnership, we are working to set that solid foundation for your children. In these earliest years of their educational journey, we help them establish the brain structure, the brain architecture—so that your child can learn and develop and be ready for kindergarten, and eventually, the world.

I know that these times might seem uncertain, and that there is much need for advocacy and healing. Know that we are here in that work alongside you. We can and will welcome you. Know that you belong here.

But today is all about joy and celebration. I want to congratulate you all for your efforts, for your work. Whether you are working, or whether you are in school, or whether your work is raising these beautiful children, you are also transitioning. You are also learning. You are also growing. And what better example for your children than to see you as their teacher, as their caregiver, as their partner in lifelong learning and growth. Do not forget your instrumental role in your child's development. Every interaction—singing songs to them, asking them about their day, and playing—all of it lays the foundation for their future.

Think of yourself as that architect—building a human who will make us all proud and leave us in wonder.

So, again, congratulations! We are so proud of you and your children.

Mi nombre es Mariana Osoria, soy la nueva directora ejecutiva aquí en gads hill center... casi 8 meses ya. Soy nuevo aquí, pero no soy nuevo en Chicago, nací y crecí aquí, crecí en la comunidad de Austin, soy mexicana y puertorriqueña, producto de las Escuelas Públicas de Chicago hasta la escuela secundaria y he estado en el campo del servicio social durante más de 30 años. Estoy muy orgulloso de ser el líder de una organización tan increíble que ha existido durante los últimos 127 años, ¿puedes creerlo? Y eso tiene un impacto tan importante todos los días. Estoy muy emocionada de estar aquí hoy, ya que este es uno de mis eventos favoritos y es un recordatorio increíble del trabajo que tengo que hacer para apoyarlos a ustedes, a sus familias y a los miembros de nuestro equipo para poder sostener la organización.

Me da un increíble gusto de estar aquí con ustedes esta mañana para celebrar los logros que ustedes y sus hijos han logrado hasta ahora. Esta es oficialmente una ceremonia de transición, por lo que mover a su hijo de un nivel a otro y, aunque no lo llamamos graduación, es exactamente el acto graduarse a otro nivel. Y aunque esta sea la primera vez que su hijo pase a otro nivel en su trayectoria educativa, por los compromisos que han asumido y por el compromiso que han asumido los miembros de nuestro equipo, esta no será en absoluto la última. Su decisión de llevar a sus hijos al cuidado y la educación de Gads Hill Center demuestra un compromiso increíble para el futuro de sus hijos, el suyo y de su familia. Por eso, les agradezco porque, aunque parezca un pequeño gesto, el hecho de traer a sus hijos a un cuidado y educación temprana de alta calidad es en realidad, fundamental y crítico, lo que sucede en el cerebro de su hijo estos primeros cinco años de su vida es como la arquitectura: tiene una visión de grandeza: el Taj Mahal, las pirámides de Chichén Itzá, el Partenón, pero antes de que pueda llegar a esas maravillas del mundo, se tuvo que establecer una base, y eso es exactamente lo que está haciendo aquí. Juntos, aliados, estamos trabajando para establecer una base sólida, para establecer la estructura de ese cerebro de sus bebes, la arquitectura del cerebro para que su hijo pueda aprender y desarrollarse, y estar listo para el kinder, sus trayectoria escolar y finalmente, para el mundo.

Sé que estos tiempos pueden parecer inciertos, y que hay mucha necesidad de abogacía y sanación, sepan que estamos aquí en ese trabajo junto a ustedes. Queremos asegurarles que son bienvenidos y que pertenece aquí.

Pero hoy todo es cuestión de alegría y celebración. Quiero felicitarlos a todos por sus esfuerzos, por su trabajo, ya sea que estén trabajando, o ustedes mismos están en la escuela o si su trabajo es criar a estos hermosos niños, también ustedes están en transición, también están aprendiendo, también están creciendo. Y qué mejor ejemplo para sus hijos que vean como su primermaestro, como su cuidador, como su compañero y el aprendizaje y crecimiento permanentes. Así que no olvide su papel instrumental en el desarrollo de su hijo, desde cantar canciones hasta preguntarle sobre su día y tocar, todo eso prepara el escenario para el futuro. Piensa en ti mismo como ese arquitecto que está construyendo un ser humano que nos hará sentir orgullosos y maravillados a todos.

Así que, de nuevo, ¡enhorabuena! ¡Estamos muy orgullosos de ti y de tus hijos!
