Gads Hill Center’s programs serve more than 4,500 children and families across Chicago every year. With 100% of our families living below the federal poverty line, GHC offers resources that may otherwise be difficult to access, like early childhood education and mental wellness support. Your monthly gifts are an investment in Chicago communities, helping to bypass systemic barriers and ensuring that families receive the community support needed to thrive.

OUR PAST STORY
Leila A. Martin and Hettie Peary French founded Gads Hill Social Settlement in 1898 to assist the Eastern European immigrants who were steadily moving into the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago. Unlike other local settlements at the time, Gads Hill was nondenominational and nonsectarian, and its chief concern was to increase social activity and community support in the neighborhood. The settlement offered educational and recreational activities for children and adults, and assisted
immigrants with gaining citizenship.

Thousands of families have passed through our doors over the last 123 years, and we're proud to continue the core mission of our founders: to create opportunities for working families to lead successful, self-sustainable lives through access to quality education and community resources. Our programs, including education for ages birth to 18, parenting resources, mental wellness support, and civic engagement opportunities, help ensure that everyone can achieve their full potential regardless of where they start.
